have the same buffeting issue on my custom, tried the clearview and found it to be much worse, caused bad headaches, took it off after 40 miles and sent it back...the cost to ship it both ways almost exceeded the price of the windshield...

that being said, the bag idea on the bottom sounds like it is worth a try for me, i never use my quick detach windshield because of the buffeting, good thing i bought it used and did not pay full price...

Oh man I went through the same thing with my 06 FXST. I bought a HD quick detach when I bought the bike new and it sucked. I sold it and was talking about windshields to a buddy while waiting to buy a ticket to a bike event in Las Vegas and a guy in line offered to give me a 14" windvest for free. I put it on but the 14 was just a little too short (I am 5'11") so I got the 16" shield and it was perfect. It takes all the wind off my face and chest, stops the bugs and the wind noise. No updrafts, side drafts, cross drafts LOL. If you get the clear shield, it is not very noticeable on the bike.

After about a year, I thought I would take a ride without it. After 10 minutes, I turned right around and went back home and put it back on. You will love it.

I have the H-D quick detach clear 19"? shield and there is some buffeting but its tolerable especially since I stopped wearing glasses and changed to goggles.

If not, ask again and I'll try to answer with a better description. I think the windshield is the large detachable for the FXSTC.

Got it. Great idea. Thanks

I got the windvest and I really like it, but there is some buffeting. I'm going to use it in the summer, looking into a klock werks for cold weather riding.

I have the HD Quick Detachable on my Deuce and it has a little updraft at speeds over 70, but not bad at all... Lots of adjustments to get it to stop giving me a headache with the buffeting , but worth it in the colder months

I have a quick detatch on my Night Train. It is a bit taller than my eye height when seated. I do not know the height, because it came with the bike when I bought it. I have had no trouble with buffetting at all with this shield. As far as your issue, it may have been more the wind than your bike. Even my Ultra has occasional issues with buffeting. It all depends on the combinations of my speed and the wind speed and direction. Give your bike a few more trys, maybe it is not a constant issue.

Looks like you can pick up a used new style HD quick release windshield for about $175. May try this route with lowers or something mounted on the forks, unless a 16" Windvest comes along first.
