Default Chrome front end?

I want to chrome out the front end, Harley has a kit the includes just about everything to do it for $620 and am wondering if it would be cheaper to piece the kit together or just throw down all in one shot from Harley. Thoughts?

Is this for a deluxe? If so, look on eBay. I recently purchased a NOS chrome front end kit for $265 that Harley had "discontinued", but in actuality had just changed part numbers on the kit. The part number is 46536-07A. Keep searching as these pop up somewhat frequently, and they're a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a kit from a dealer.

Polish lowers for cheap. Looks almost like chrome. Will not rust and you can sand out rock chips and scratches.

If you are going to spend $620 get the Ness HotLegs as they are much nicer and a few bucks less. They are smooth on the bottom and the axle threads into the right side leg and sits flush on the left with a smooth chrome cap. Just my .02.

Compare their looks to the stock Harley legs and you will see a big difference.

Kuma this looks interesting. Did you do this also? Should the lowers be cleared after polishing?

Has anyone else tried this or have input? I don't have the $$ for chrome lowers anytime soon but this looks to be a way to get by until then.

Thanks

Psych that exact kit is on ebAy now but it lists as for the fatboy. I dont know what the difference is so I skipped over it. But if it works for my Deluxe I should be good. Thanks for pointing that out.

I would polish the lowers but I just think chrome looks better.

The polished lowers will take a lot more work to keep looking nice as they will have to repolished but if funds are an issue it is a great way to go.

I just bought this kit. From what I can tell it fits, only difference is the headlight surround but the stock one is chrome and Harley kit doesn't include it so it should work. Not bad for 300

Hogpro is correct......aluminum oxidizes over time and there is nothing you can do about it except to keep polishing it. That said there is a thread on here where someone polished the lowers on his softail........might have a different perspective since it's been awhile on the posting.
I only kown this because I work for a company that buys lots of aluminum components and we conversion coat them in order to prevent oxidation.

Someone polished the frame on my Triumph Sprint ST before I bought it and it was such a pain to keep polished and shiny I brushed it with red scotchbrite which lasted for quite a lot longer and took all of 5 min to clean up. Polished aluminum that's not sealed is a huge pain in the *** to keep shiny.
