I just got 95 FLSTC from a deceased relative. I had a 92 FLSTF for several years but it always ran like a top. Never had much work to do on the old one. But this 95 has been sitting for a few months. So far I have replaced the Plugs, Plug Wires, Battery, checked the fuel, oil, and can see fuel going into Carb. She still won't start. Any ideas or helpful info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I would also post this in the Evo section for a more detailed response. There are lots of posts like this.
I would empty the gas tanks first and take off the air cleaner and open the enrichener fully then spray some gum out or Carb cleaner after new gasoline.
Check for spark as mentioned.
If you see a spark from the coil wire to the coil odds are it's getting to the new plugs you just put in.
Setting a few months could mean the gas has gone bad in the tank. It'll draw moisture if left over a period of time, especially like winter. Or the gas setting in the carb has gummed it up. You can use an additive in the tank like dry gas, and take the air filter off and spray the carb. Might even want to use some starter fluid carefully.
How did the plugs look that you removed? There's a chart on reading the wear on them to tell how the motor was running.
If it was running good a few months ago it can't be anything major so careful what you tear into. Some guys will start ripping the carb off or attempting to adjust it. It may just be stubborn to start. If you've never seen it being started you just don't know.
Other than that a bike that's been sitting can have seals and gaskets dry out and something as simple as a bad intake seal can keep it from starting.
There are several forums here with Evo having a lot of followers and many great mechanics. Some have been commenting that it may be a better place for the discussion.
Thanks, for all the help. I will try the things that I can do. Also, did post in the EVO Forum as suggested, got a couple ideas there as well. I am glad that I found this forum, only a couple days and great help and info are great. Keep you all posted and I am sure I will need more help as I go along. Thanks again to all!
