I am going for the same open look, and left mine mirrored... it seemed to have a kaleidascope look helping it to look even more open than it was. REAL EASY to get dirty, though.
I too went through the scraped knuckles and ingenius tool techniques to get it installed without getting the rear tire off. One thing I did do was I damaged 3 teeth on the belt when getting the old one off, so BE CAREFUL!! They're holding up good now but eventually I'll have to replace the belt early because of it.
When I was installing my $6.00 Radio Shack siren...the splash guard was very easy to get off. One bolt and the whole thing slips up and over the rear wheel and spits out the opening under the license plate.
Now I'm wondering if there is a way to "trim" the sides of the stock splash guard to achieve the same look. For Free!
Still wondering where someone found the stainless piece for $45 bucks though.

I have seen the aftermarket ones on ebay for less than $40...in the end its a piece of sheet metal right?
My question is this one says 08 and up...so does that mean no 05 fitment? Sometimes the MoCo is too conservative on fitments so I wonder...
