Default Belt Conditioner

This might be a dumb idea, but today I'm in a shop and spot CRC Belt Conditioner. Made for automotive use but it claims to prevent all types of belts from drying out, cracking and prolongs their life. So I'm wondering if anyone has ever used this or a similar product on their drive belt. Or is this just snake oil.

Toothbrush and some water is all you need.

I finally replaced my 12 1/2 year old belt earlier this month at 119,960 miles. Only when I got past 80,000 would it "chirp" occasionally. Then I used a bit of grey anti-seize on the outer edge every few thousand miles to quiet it down.

My bike ran the Kevlar reinforced belt. Newer bikes, ( 04 and later,) run the stronger carbon fiber belts which should last longer.

So the short answer? No belt dressing needed IMO.

(And I never once cleaned my belt with a toothbrush or anything else. I suspect that they're pretty much self-cleaning. )

I just clean mine good with an old toothbrush when I wash the bike. Removing the dirt from the teeth helps the sprockets last longer IMO.

I used some belt cleaner once on the wifes car belts yrs ago.. then the Alt starting making a noise, I thought, sounded like the bearing were going south...

Took it in (Still under Warranty) and the wrench said the Alt is fine,, but he Added don't ever use that chit on Ur belt. It built up a film on all the pulleys and that was what was causing the sound. Tool him an hr to remove the film off them.

As above just a hose and soap and water, I use my wire wheel brush, its works really good for the belt too.
