Look what "The Union" has done for GM & Ford. They're broke because of all the dead weight they're carrying. Will they ever recover from the lousy cars of the 70's & 80's (Like HD did) because of the lazy lack of workmanship?? We're building good cars now, but the gulible American public is already tuned into buying jap. Hat's off to honda and toyota I guess.
I hope Harley-Davidson blows the union out, and fires everyone of em. They could give them the chance to re-apply for their jobs. But give people who (want to work) the opportunity.
I'm from a strong union family too. My dad was a Teamster and mom was United Telegragh Worker. Both were F'ed over by the union at some point.
Noone is forcing you to stay in that job. If the risks are to high for the pay, leave that sh#thole of a city and go somewhere else. Policeman here in Ohio make pretty good money. A good friend of mine, with a college degree, was manager of a grocery store and left it to become a State Highway Patrol. His base pay is over $50K/year and he gets all the OT he wants.
If you want to make bigger money, you need to have something to offer in todays economy. I have been going to college off and on my entire life. I am just finishing my third degree and I am already planning a fourth. Why? I like making a lot of money...plain and simple. It's a sacrifice. I am not out every night having fun...I am hitting the books hard almost every night. And I am middle aged with a demanding job and I already make 3 times the salary most people make. No one handed me anything in life, I have busted my @ss for everything I have.
Bottom line is take control of your own future. You don't need a union or some sorry @ss lazy union stewart speaking for you.
well put man.work is work , union or not, this is a joke there is so many haters out there, pointing fingers in a jealous fit!! if ya dont like your job , study your butt off , hit the books , but dont hate, and most of all quit crying and whining about it... hell it your life , make it what ya want , life to short to point finger and whine......... boo freakin hoooooooooo this guy makes this much .... this guys gets to do this job ...........whaaa whaa get over it , and make it happen
Um,college boy. I have a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, 4 years military and 18 years toward a pension. And I'm gonna leave now? Just throw away a good pension. You don't get the point do ya. You and your 3 degrees. And you served how many years for your country? And how many drunk, spittin blood idiots have you wrestled at 3 in the morning? How bout your wife and family who you never seen for 10 years working nights. But I made the decision, its what I wanted to do all my life. Would not do it again, but thats another discussion.
JR thanks for your service to our country, honest. Its something we are all truly indebted to you for. I think his only point above was to suggest that the market (in this case the local police force) will pay what the market will bear. I dont know how much you make, but my bet is if you quit they have enough potential recruits to replace you for your same wage or less. Now, the pension is part of the deal. You may not make all that much, but you also will retire with constant paychecks, unlike some of us who have to simply save for our retirement. No matter what the business is, as long as a union isnt involved, the market will adjust pay to ensure a market driven salary is paid to employees in any given field. Its the reason that teachers in cities make more than teachers in rural locations, on average. If your law enforcement organization was having trouble finding employees, without a doubt, one of the first things they would change to attract good recruits would be increased pay and benefits. This isnt to say your job isnt dangerous, or by using danger as a means to make a pay scale, that you arent underpaid since other jobs are less dangerous. The problem is that there are quite a few people waiting in line to do your job. Thus, they dont have to pay all that much. Simple supply and demand. Its capitalism at its best. You dont work in an office/cube. A lot of people value that + the excitement. What can you say?
I never said I served my country (in uniform) nor is the debate about our military or our military service. No doubt they are underpaid but that is another thread. The point I was making is that you are free to go work somewhere else and no doubt with your credentials you would not have any trouble getting a job. Again, this was just in response to the desire to want a union to fix the yearly cuts you seem to be taking. Like I stated, buddy of mine is a State Patrol Officer. He is married with 4 kids and his wife does not work and they seem to get by, own a house, etc.
I didn't mean to offend you. Contrary to what you might think, I have nothing but respect and support for our public servants. The only point of contention is union representation.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Nevermind the repost, just think about the poor horsey....[sm=deadhorse.gif] I feel for you guys, but point being, everyone has their own opinion and this can go on for days, weeks, months, and will be going for years. My dad was union, a steelworker, therefore I would be because it was a good thing for our family then. He worked in a zinc mine where his brother (my uncle) was killed, for 27 years and they shut down, not sure why, but they did. Now back to me being "grandfathered into the union", I'm not sure because I'm not union nor do I have a choice for a while; however, I like what I do and if I didn't it wouldn't much matter now would it? Just letthisgo, this is a HD forum, not a union debate... Just be EXTREMELY THANKFUL that you have the right to do whatever it is that you do, union or not.
Guess what? This thread is locked. To repeat what I've said on 3 or 4 other threads about the York plant shutdown, if you wanna talk for/against union stuff, go to the threads in PROD.
