Building a Bagger Tail
OK, I see I definatley was not the first to think about adding hard bags to a fat boy. Might be the only one in my area. Any way, there seems to be many people here are expierenced in this area.
I have read a lot about Cycle Visions Bagger Tail. There are some out there that are a little cheaper than that but, whats the difference? What about Sumax bag mounts? Those are almost a hundred more than Cycle Vision. What are your thoughts on this?
Then there are the bags. There are some after market, made in the USA, that are a lot cheaper than factory. Has anyone used bags from The Fairing Factory?
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Speak to your painter as regards which he'd rather paint. Also some of the cheaper fiber glass ones, take double the amount of prep work, so your painter will charge more, I just bought Vtwin mfg, they are Abs and solid, also just get the Cycle visions and follow the pack.
I used cavalry fiberglass conversion brackets that I got off ebay. I offered about $50 less than the buy it now and got them. Have used them now for two years with no issues at all. I would recommend them, here is a link does not look like they sell on ebay anymore.

I would agree that on their site it looks like a big gap. But after I put mine on I dont see that big of a gap compared to Cycle Visions. A lot has to do with the angle the photos are taken. I compared my gap to my buddies E-Glide and it is damn near the same. If it was any tighter I would not be able to open my lids. I did flip the brackets to pull them tighter but they hit the seat and and detachable hardware. Here is a link with some good photos of cycle visions brackets with the same bags I have. I only have one pic from the rear of mine. I would take more but it is in getting rebuilt after someone decided it would be a good idea to pull out in front of me. I will also try to find the sheet I wrote the gap down on. If you have any more questions let me know. If you are looking for the smooth look I would go bad dad or sumax and get their mounts, bags and rear fender. There are a few running those set up and look nice. I do not care for how the filler panels look, but that is just me. Rich

Thanks,

I just did the cycle visions mounts and I have to say the instructions suck but other than that they are sturdy..I wouldn't put bags on my bike without the bottom bracket that firms everyhing up but I have to agree they need to come up with a better design than those ugly bolts in the back, I just got chrome hardware and replaced the bolts that came with it.
