I really don't use the km/h scale but you never know where the bike will take you. Most likely, unless you travel into the States on your bike, you have no need for the mph scale. But, you can't purchase this speedo where the km/h scale is the primary scale and mph is secondary. I actually like the analog speedos, like ours, more than the looks of the digital ones. The ability to change the color of the backlight is very nice. I have a blue backlight that matches the color of the flush mount fuel gauge and the digital oil pressure gauge.
The flush mount fuel cap and gauge kit really gives the tanks a seamless look. Certainly one of the better accessories HD thought of.
Yeah, I think when we were ordering it we were looking at the catalog and while it would be nice to have MPH on it as well, we weren't sure if we could get one with both that would display my trip in km. I live close to the border and frequently ride in the US, and it was actually an American dealership I ordered it from, but given the choice, I'd rather have km and do the mental conversion to MPH, given that the majority of my riding is on this side.
There is definitely a hell of a lot of color options, I have mine at all green right now, but may play around with it down the road and mix stuff up so all the areas are distinct colors from each other.

You just have to remember to convert, when necessary. At least your conversion is the safe one.
If you are in the States and forget to convert km/h to mph you'll have a lot of pissed off American drivers. ie: If the speed limit is 60 mph and you do 60 km/h (37mph) the horns would be blaring.
If I was in Canada and forgot to convert mph to km/h I'd have a lot of pissed off Canadian drivers and Mounties !!! ie: If the speed limit is 100 km/h and I was doing 100 mph (161 km/h) the sirens would be blaring.
Happy Holidays to our northern neighbors! Ride safe (when spring arrives).
I have to second Vic Bronco's recommendation for the flush mount fuel cap and gauge kit from HD. If you have the funds, the install not difficult.
The left cap has an LED display indicating the fuel level. The right cap pops up with a 1/4 counter-clockwise turn so it can be removed to fill tank.
The flush caps are certainly top dollar, but worth every penny IMHO. They look superb and allow you to crank your beach bars down further!! The fuel gauge lights have to be seen to be believed!

Funny you mention that about beach bars. I have them rotated down as far as they can go without the brake line hitting the tank. In fact, I had to rotate the brake line connection at the master cylinder to raise the brake line. You're right on, without the flush caps the bars could not be near as down as they are.
Did the almost the same to mine yrs ago, maybe not as Urs sounds, but took a little of the same stuff that polishes the sheilds and buffed it out.. About 95% buffed out.
Anyone want to throw a brother a part number on the flush mount kit?
If you do a search for parts for your year model at HD, look in the Electronics, Gauges & Consoles
Black and Chromed kits both come up as in store purchase only.

If you cut the wires right at the plug, (new flush mount comes with pins attached and new plug) tape a single spare piece of wire to them to use as a snake to pull the new wires down through the tank.
I got to get a set of those for my Slim - AND the analog speedo...
I saw one installed at the dealer the other day and the LED's on the fuel gauge look fantastic.
But, does the fuel cap give you any trouble with gloves on?
