I have the fender, caliper, and front wheel off; now having troubles removing the 6mm allen screw holding the lower forks on. I am using a 6mm long allen socket since I have no impact wrench but it just wont budge and worried I might strip it out. Also I am trying to hold it from spinning at the same time...that's not working either. Should I completly take the entire assembly off then try and break loose the 6mm screw? Should I wait until I get another set of hands on it?
Better yet use a impact driver, When you hit it with a hammer you will have turning force and inward force.......this way there is no chance of stripping the head
IMPACT DRIVER= a hand tool that you put a socket on andhit with a hammer ,very powerful, only cost 20 bucks
I had the same problem you have. I had to end up getting an impact wrench. The one side came off like a charm, the other side stripped as I had rounded it trying to get it off manually. A quick hit with the cordless drill and the stripped one came out just aseasy.
If you don't wanna spend the $$ on the impact, just drill them bolts out. Replacement bolts came with my new lower sliders or are less than a dollar if you have to buy them. An impact wrench will run you more than $100. I however, liked having the excuse to buy another tool and went the expensive route.
