Default Lower legs.

I know this has been posted before but I can't seem to get a straight answer when I search for it so here it comes again.

All I want to do is remove the lower legs so I can polish them.

I have a 04 Heritage Classic.

Is the 6mm screws/bolts above the axle the only thing that has to be removed to take off the lower legs?

I know you have to remove the snap ring and the oil and all the other obvious parts.

Use an air impact wrench when removing the 6mm allen bolts. It's alot easier.

+1 on the impact wrench. You also need a long 6 mm wrench.

I guess you still have to take off the fork cap bolts to put new oil back in or is there a way around that?

Yes, remove top caps to refill.

Polished mine without removing lowers. Just remove fender and front tire. You must be doing something else also.

No just figured it would be easier to do w/ them off the bike. But is seems like it would be just as much of a hassle to take them off.
