I didn't have the boom brand but a generic system on my v star back when I had it. 2 handlebar speakers, an amp, and a controller I mounted on the bars. I can't imagine the boom being more in depth to hook up and I'm pretty sure my wife who's never touched a wrench could do it in 3 hours.

I have installed this on my Road King took me about 2.5 hours to do. I do not know what part of Ma. you are in but if close to Fitchburg and do not want to do the install yourself give Fro a call at Froshow customs he does good work.

I have installed two Boom audio systems and each one took about 2.5 hours. The wife's 08 Sporster has the handlebar speakers and my Fatboy has the windshield mount speaker. They both sound good as long as you use a good MP3 player. The wife uses her 4th gen Ipod touch and I use a Cowon MP3 player which plays much louder and clearer.

I've got a 2009 Road King and plan on doing the install myself...and it's all about the warm garage, few beers, and tunes. I read the instructions... Doesn't look too bad... Have to take the tank off and the headlight. I'll let you know...

I guess it depends. Mine are mounted on the crash bar and wired internally, controls are also wired internally in the handlebars.

Mimo, u ended going with the boom?? I was so looking forward to your custom setup thread that I'm researching now. 5.25 buckets with either alpine type r's or hertz speakers with an external amp. It is a lot of work though and a lot of cash

Yes, my boom audio setup is kind of an in between custom audio setup. I gave up the idea of it and got the boom twin speakers (not the wind-shield ones), not satisfied with it's performance and highly doubt that would be with another brand of motorcycle speakers... Their frequency range is pretty poor... This is why I resumed the idea of building of my own system. I've been swamped with work and have not had the chance to put it all together, missing just the 2 Ohm marine amp (2-channel 200w) from JL audio.

I already have the speakers (two-way BOSE 3.5" pair and another 5.25" pair, same brand). Last time I was up in the U.S. I bumped into a pretty cool pair of speakers (marine for boat's ski tower) but those were way too heavy/bulky and waaay out of price range for this project ($1000 usd a pair, WTF?).

I have some other stuff going on that takes off of my toy-budget but that custom audio setup is something I really want on the bike...

When I do it make no mistake that I'll share details with you guys about it.

Stay healthy!

Mimo.

I hear u bro, this hobby is a money pit. I'm still trying to configure my custom setup in the headlight buckets. I definitely want mine on the crash bar. Did the Bose speakers fit the in the headlight bucket?

Yes they fit. There is a gap between the headlamp and the speakers. Still trying to figure out a decent way/material to close part of that gap so it looks good and there is a fair air exchange so it doesn't act as a sealed box. Those speakers are "open air" operation. And brother, they sound LOUD and clear, they are the real thing...
