Both statements are dumb. STAY AWAY FROM FROM CAGES...PERIOD. It amazes me every time a rider goes down...comes up with excuses...yet never tells how he/she was trying to protect themself. And to hear forum members coddling and making more excuses is pure BS. ABS more BS. Riding 3 feet off a cars azz end and ABS isn't going to help you one bit. Whatever happened to learning how to ride and protect yourself? This is why I dislike riding with RUBS and newbies. You can all flame me for being hard but it's just a bunch of crap to make excuses. STAY THE FCK AWAY FROM THE PROBLEMS. Granted, there's always an idiot cager but when someone chooses to ride a bike the responsibilty lies with them to protect themself. Riding 3 feet off a cages butt is stupid. No other way to explain it. No other excuses.

Take a class and learn how to stay away from 3000 pound vehicles. It isn't the cars fault. You shouldn't have been riding his butt. How do you feel when a cage is riding your butt? if you want sympathy it won't come from me. Hopefully, you will learn from this and start taking better care of yourself and your bike. Just stay as far away from these clowns as you can. There's no reason to be 3 feet off the azz end of a 4wheelers unless you're looking for trouble.
So you think I was tailgating a car 3 feet from his bumper? Really?? You should probably read my account of what happened more carefully before calling me dumb and implying that I deserved what happened.

I don't even know you, but I'm not interested in knowing you. Don't talk to me again.

Read it again fool. I wasn't tailgating anyone and I already said that ABS is too often used as a crutch for lack of skill. But it won'd do any good to defend myself to you. You already know ALL about me, don'cha? Sure you do. You have it all figured out because you didn't bother understanding what happened. Sorry, you are wrong again. But since it's a lot easier to make stupid assumptions about what happened I'll just let you roll down that path. Stop posting in this thread before you make a bigger *** of yourself. You obviously can't read.

Hey Cammer,
Sorry to hear of the drop, had a few close calls similar to yours myself. If you don't have them, you might consider installing engine guards. They really help in situations such as this.
Good luck with getting back out there!

They help in tip-overs and maybe slow speed laydowns but drop it at any speed and you stand a good chance of totalling your ride. If that little tab where they mount on the top bends then the insurance co will total the bike.

This is why I dislike riding with RUBS and newbies
Hey accidents will happen and nobody can be 100% attentive, but I agree with this statement. Newer riders and what I call the part timers just don't have the experience or maybe it's the will to learn and I don't want to get trapped by their mistakes. Took a ride this summer with a guy who could not decide what side off the road he wanted to be on, I solved that by staying way-way back, like riding by my self. In groups, I either lead or take tail end charlie.

Its hard to modulate the rear in a panic. Why not pay for a computer to do it for you?
Sure it's hard, that is why one must practice and if anyone really thinks just haveing ABS is going to solve that, they need to take more rides in the rain. ABS is great but it does not fix everything. You can practice panic stops just befor you get new tires, or go rent a dirt bike but screeching up to some guys bumper is no time to experience your first skid.

To the OP,

Glad you are OK, the bike is only metal and can be fixed, be careful out there, they are all out to git cha...

Ds

So........you panic stopped and lost control of your machine travelling less than 10mph?
Sounds like you need more parking lot practice.......

PANIC STOPPED!!!! sounds like he was cut off by a car leaving only 3 measly feet of space and the car was breaking hard so that would mean the 3 feet was closing fast.....what kind of stop would you have done oh mighty motorcycle instructor?

I love how full this forum can be at times with critics. Most people are here for support and help but some troll just to be a$$holes.

It actually sounds like he was pizzed off because he got cut off and followed too close to the "offender" and suffered the consequenses.
Practice emergency braking in parking lots.......not when you need to.
