Default duece rear wheel on night train

Hey guys I know this has been covered quite a bit but most questions typically are along the lines of whats the biggest tire etc...but anyway here goes...I recently purchased a 2000 night train that came with a 17" rear deuce wheel on it. It currently needs a rear tire but I'm having trouble finding one thats the same current size. It currently has a 150/70/17 on it. Its a continental contiforce tire. Does anyone recommend a better tire in that size or know if I can get a 160/70/17 on there with no other mods?

Yes, you can put a 160 on it. That's the size that came on the deuce from the factory. It's a 4.5" rim and you can get from a 140 up to a 180 on the factory rim and it will work. I'm partial to the metzeler 160. It's a good tire.

Deuce has a wide factory fender...NT does not. A 160 is 6.3 inches on paper and actual size of tire varies quite a bit by brand. NT fender is 7 inches minus the bolt heads holding the fender on...so be very careful trying to fit a 160 on there or you will cut a new tire ...don't ask me how I know this...lol

Tom84fxst is right. I didn't mean to mislead. What I was saying is that a 160 tire can definitely go on the deuce rim. As far as clearance for the fender on your train, that I'm not sure. Each tire varies in width by manufacturer, even if they are listed as the same size, so make sure to look at the exact specs and they will list the actual tire width. Make sure you have clearance, especially taking into account any wiring run inside your fender. And watch out for any bolts or nuts that could damage the tire. There's a good site that shows a lot of tire and rim info that may help. It's www.hdwheels.com.

thanks for the info guys...i'm currently running a fatboy rear fender back there now. I will keep researching! It may just be easier to go back to a 16" rear wheel

Tom is right. A 160 is the widest you can go without having to do any real modification to the bike. Some lower profile bolts and correct spacing of that wheel is recommended though... I gave my 160 a nice little shave on the right side when i first put it on
