went on a ride with my friend this past weekend, he just traded in his 04 heritage for a new 07 road king. after we got home, he let me take his bike for a ride. I do have to say that having 6 gears was sweet, but my god, when I came to my first stop light, I thought I was on one of those vibrating motel beds with an endless feed of quarters! It suprised me how much it shook and vibrated standing still. I now have more love for my softail.
Well, I sold my 2004 RK to my sister and bought a 2005 Heritage Sortail Classic. I have to say that I always liked the RK's rumble at idle, still do, as I get to ride it a lot, since she leaves it with me when they return to Alaska for fishing each year. As far as the balanced engine Heritagegoes, it is so much a sweeter ride, low and stretched out, and much easierto hande at low speeds. So they both have their strong points, that's why they are such popular sellers for HD.
I'llbuy another rigid or rubber mount again in a second.Dilutethese bikesany more and we might as well change thenameto honsuzyamkaw cycles since any character will be washed right out of the brand.
I am just the opposite...I like the shaking of the rubber mounted engines at idle and the smoothness at speed. Contrast this with the Softails that are smooth at idle but have an annoying high frequency vibration at highway speeds. Even so, I prefer the Softail overall (because of looks). To bad they couldn't have figured out how to rubber mount the Softails and keep the styling.

What speed did you experience this annoying buzzing on a Softail? What year Softail and engine was it?
I haven't experienced any high frequencyvibration at highway speeds.

Having had both a FXDWG and a Deluxe they are very different...My wideglide shook at idle and smoothed out with speed or revs...The softail is smooth at idle but you get the vibes at higher speed or revs...Pic one....That is my experience and IMHO...Both great in there own way...
Same thing happens with the OL's Lowrider. It doesn't smooth out untill it gets up past 2000 RPM. As for my Softail, I've only had it up to 95 so far, but never noticed any vibration. It does ride slightly harsher than the LR though because it has more unsprung weight.
