Default It was time to finish what I started

2000 Fatboy, 2 years ago had to pull the motor to replace a crank that the balancer gear had spun on it. Was a budget build since I was unemployed.
Front cylinder has been p***ing me off since then. Kept getting oil blowing on the oil tank and I could not figure out where it was coming from.

This weekend it was time to address it. Ordered all the parts and ready to go. James gasket kit, new lifters, Andrews 26's and every little part I could need.

Mental notes from the weekend:
James gaskets are much nicer than Harley. Harley gives you one big clear package with everything throw inside. James puts them in individual plastic bags with a sheet with what they actually contain. What a novel idea.

Do not use loctite on the head bolts. They can remove the studs when you take them out. Helpful hint to remember.

When running true duals, you must separate the rear pipe from the pipe from the head. You cannot do this if you have already unbolted the pipe from the cylinder. Exhaust gasket is wrecked, gotta fix that before the test ride.

Cam chain tensioners: My outer is original and has 67,800 miles on it. The inner one has 25,000 on it. Both still look like new. Amazing.

Oil spray looks like it was coming from 2 places. The upper pushrod o rings and also the valve cover. The James parts appear to be better quality and should address both issues.

I did the initial fire up and she lit right away. Barely a noise at start up, no warning lights or strange sounds. Did a 30 second run, let it cool to the touch and did a 1 minute run. Other than an exhaust leak, sounds real good.

Another hour of fixing the exhaust and buttoning up the small chrome items and I'll be ready for a test ride. Looking forward to a little kick in the HP. Total cost for this ran me $450 and should be a good investment.

As long as I can get the header pipe apart from the exhaust pipe on the rear cylinder, should be good to go. It's a tight fit getting it out off of the rear head.

All I have to say is wow!! These Andrew's 26 are really something else. Did my heat cycles the other day and finally got it out for a ride tonight. Such a difference in the motor, and I didn't get it over 3,000 rpm, if that. But I can tell, the pull is amazing. I can't wait to get it out and put some miles on and break everything in. It feels like it's gonna jump when I get it cranked up running at speed. Nothing like a rewarding ride after some wrenching on the old girl. Gonna be a great year!
