Okay i have been lurking for awhile and pondering on what i should do here for the best economical and bang for the buck upgrades on my engine. Wanting some advice here to see if i am heading down the right path. Since the weather blows figured i would go ahead and tackle this project before warm weather comes. This is what im looking at:
Axtell bore: Stock jugs to 97 w/ honed pistons
Big Boyz cycles head porting
S&S 583 EZ start cam.
I already have a SERT, SE Stage 2 Filter, and Vance and Hines Longshots. I know 2 into 1 exhausts get the best results, but i like the ones i have.
Hello from Redcar England.
Just want to start by saying that i not a tuning expert but i have an upgraded tc88 and would say this. It transforms the bike and you no you are at another level well worth doing.
This is a well walked path and if you do a search it will turn up all sorts of combo's. You have to be up front about how you want to ride the bike and it can be dialed in to how you want it to go. At some point you have to put your trust in the guys doing the work unless you are doing it yourself in which case the trust is in the advice of the parts combo. 95 inch with heads cams air intake and a good zorst topped of with a good map is plenty to get the bike going sweet, but if its not you first time you may want a bit more the sky is the limit. If the bike has a lot of miles on you may be wise to do a full strip and get a nice new crank with a weld and plug job. Go for an up rated oil pump and sort out the cam chest.
Good luck with it.

If you want a "budget" build the Axtell are more expensive than the S/e, at least I think they are. My softail has 203 cams, 07 heads, and s/e 95". Dyno tuned runs good. If I were to get ported and polished heads it would have more get up and go but it is fine. It's a softail. And I got the S/E cam plate with hydraulic tensioners and bigger oil pump. One day I'll pull it apart and see how it is wearing.

would it be idea to put the cam plate w/ hydraulic tensioners in there? i read something somewhere about the internals failing due to chain vs gear drives. any light on that?
