Seat Dilema on FX...
Should I buy a combo where I can swap between solo/2-up, or set the bike up with a permanent 2-up config (similar to the way FXSTC’s come from the factory)?
Background: 06 FXSTSI… Stock seat is leaving. Initially I wanted to replace it with solo/passenger combo and detach backrest/sissy setup so I could swap 1-up/2-up configurations. That’s what I did with my Sporty and I liked that setup. It will have bags installed also so whichever way I go must support having bags.
After some thought however, I’m not sure I need a solo setup option on the Softail. How would I secure throw over bags without a passenger pillion to bolt over top? If I run a detach kit for the sissybar/backrest, I lose some options for bolt-on bags.
If I buy a one-piece seat and rigid sideplates I can save a few bucks versus the cost of a solo combo and detachable sideplates, etc.
I think the Softail doesn’t look bad at all with a full-time 2-up setup where the Sporty sometimes seemed a little overloaded looking that way. Wife and I ride our Sporty’s together solo. The FX will be my longer distance ride or our 2-up bike.
Thanks all.
