Was wondering those with apes if you ever use a windshield.I dont like them with apes but none the less they can come in handy.I just dont want to move my bars back whenever i want to use the shield. What does everyone do?Any insights on those shields that mount to the bars?
Hey there, you have a few options when it comes to this. a) move the bars when you want to use the shield (which is a major PITA), b) attach the shield and just leave it a bit loose, with the pressure of the wind against it it should not fall off or move on you (until you stop, maybe), or c) take a dremmel or other rotary tool and carve the windshield in the places it contacts the handlebars/cables until it locks into place (it'll look kinda stoopid but you'll be the only one who really notices, I think).
I chose option C. The pics don't show it, but when I need it for the long highway rides I can attach it like I was able to do, prior to the mods. Once it is on, it's a good tight fit and nobody can tell otherwise. When you get to your destination, you'll be taking it off and cruising around without it anyway, right? Good luck.
I may just do that.Right now i have to get a windsheild since the one i had does not work with the nacelle.I sold it to a friend so now i'm looking to replace it with one that fits the nacelle.I'm also looking to add the aux lights like you have but that also has to fit w/nacelle.

A replacement windshield for 58649-97A will fit with the nacelle. That's what I bought.
Rick, nice wheels, are those 40 spoke radial's? or 80's? They've been on my wish list 4ever now, but I forget who makes them, can you enlighten? Drag Spec's, if I remember correctly, but the short term memory problems....you know. Also, my aux lamps came with the ride, it is a Heritage and not a Fatty, as I'm sure you've already figured out. Unless BuckeyeHD is spot on with that part number, you'll probably need to consult with the dealer for fitment once you add the aux's.
I remember my road trip to Myrtle Beach Bike Week and regret not slapping on my windshield...I got there and was beat, made me feel older than I alredy am. That is when I decided to carve the windshield.
Sig test here.

I have 16's on my bike. While I don't like the look of a windshieldwith the apes, I'm considering getting one anyway for the long hauls and when the weather is less than nice. I haven't had my apes on for a long time, but have experienced riding into a real stiff wind...I have to say, I had a death grip on those apes, and was wore out in what seemed like a short time.
Barrel bag is defintiely a consideration, especially if you're sans saddlebags or have more ***** to haul than your saddle's can handle. Plus, it looks a HELL of alot cooler than a friggin windshield. With my 18's, my hands are nearly above the top of the windshild, and looks ridiculous. My fear with that is that the bag would scuff the nacelle headlight, apparently that hasn't happened to your headlight, biss? It looks like the barrel would fit snugly into the groove between your headlight and bars, helping to eliminate any shifting from the wind, but I could be wrong.
