Handlebar Wiring Harness Extension
I'm installing 12.5 apes on my 2005 Fatboy and was thinking of using this kit.

I don't know if I should get the 8", 12" or 15" kit. Advice need please.
Will I have to take my tank off to install this kit?

I have extended many a wiring harness and did not use a kit. I just use the correct guage wire in a similar color. Another option is to find an old switch wiring harness and cut a section out.
You will have to take the tank off, but that is easy. The handlebar harness plugs in under the tank. The plugs will fit up through the triple tree so simply take the switch housings off the handlebars and pull the wiring out. Look at the routing so you can run it in the same location.
Cut each wire near the plug end, staggering the cuts by at least 1 1/2" inches. If you are running the wires in the handlebars, put them into the bars before soldering the new sections of wire in. If not, add the required length of wire using solder and heat shrink. I would add a little extra wire as you can always hide it under the tank.
Simply reverse the steps and put it all back together.

What I'm not so sure about is if there are any concerns with unplugging things with the factory alarm system on it.
