Default help with cable lengths

im looking for the right cable size to go with for my fathers 2006 deluxe, he is going from stock bars to harley 10'' apes with 2'' risers, so 12'' total rise, what size cables and wire extensions will he need? i was looking at magnum cables but they dont have wires, i could probably just solder some extensions in but proper wire extensions that fit into the stock harness would be ideal, so any help would be great,thanks

Do a Google search for stock Harley cable length. There are several companies that make pre wired bars so you literally just plug in and go. Good luck.

Pre-wired bars means that the control wiring and switches are already attached, and it's cheap *** asian junk that will break a solder joint in a New York minute. Use your existing HD wiring and extend the harness. Nothing hard about it.

The Magnum Shielding website has a "Search by Bike" button that you can use to determine what length cables to use. When I went from stock Fatboy bars to 13" apes (Chubby 12.5's actually), I needed + 4" inches on the clutch, throttle, and idle cables. And 50" for the brake cable.

And if you're looking for recommendations on which brand to use, I'll give Barnett a +1. Got them on my bike and am totally satisfied with the fit, finish, and durability.

Went back to my notes when I did my cables. I had to use +6".

On a 2006 Deluxe, based on Magnum Shielding's spreadsheet, cable sizes should be;
Clutch - 68 11/16" (stock length 62 3/4")
Throttle Cable - 36 5/8" (stock length 30 3/4")
Idle Cable - 36 5/8"
(stock length 30 3/4")
Brake Line - 50" (stock length 44")

Any questions concerning cable sizing, ask again. You only want to order them once. They aint cheap!!!

The shop where you eventually buy the cables should be able to order you a handlebar controls wire extension kit. You should only need a 12" extension, so I'm attaching a link to Dennis Kirk for a Novello 12" handlebar wire harness extension kit for clarification.

https://www.denniskirk.com/handlebar-wire-harness-extension-kit.p211739.prd/211741.sku?_requestid=614768

That should get you started.
