I always have trouble understanding why people will spend countless dollars on chrome bling but when it comes to your brakes, the actually mechanism that will stop your bike, they balk at the price.
The brakes are only second to the tires in importance on a motorcycle. If you have ever had a near miss or ridden a bike with good aftermarket 6 and 4 piston calipers you will realize how weak the stock calipers are on a softail. Combined with a steel braided line, your stopping power will be greatly increased.
Now if $400 is going to possible save my life one day I'm good with it. yes, I spent a lot of money for the bike. Yes, the stock calipers suck. Try riding a modern sportbike and you will realize how lacking Harley brake calipers are on softails.
To me it is a waste to get the same stock calipers in chrome as I ride daily in insane city and freeway traffic and I value the components on my bike as they keep me alive. Yes, over dramatic for sure, but think about it.
One of the first upgrades on my bikes is a brakes.
