6 piston in front to give the stopping power where it's needed- 70%-80% is up front. 4 piston in rear- not so much power so the rear doesn't lock up as easily. It's a balance thing.

yes i understand that

i was asking about 4 Vs 6 piston on the front caliper

does the 6 piston caliper take a larger pad than the 4 or does the 6 just have smaller pistons & a similar size pad

the other thing to concider is the weight hanging of the side of the fork

i dont mind a bigger caliper but dont want it to be to big & look out of place

regards
Rod

Mowtown,

Did the DBI Calipers actually stop the bike any better than stock? Or should one head another direction with PM or HHI or Jaybrakes?

So far they have been excellent. No problems and still look like new.

They stop the bike well, I went to a 4 piston on the back at the same time so over all the braking is much better than stock but that might be partially due to the aftermarket pads as well.

I do mostly flat land cruising in these parts so I cant give you a Dragon Tail type review on these but so far they are just perfect for the money spent. I was really impressed with how they looked right out of the well engineered box.

These are designed in Japan but most certainly made in China for this price but the finish and craftsmanship was very high. I would have no problem buying again for another bike.

I just couldn't spend $800 for brake calipers after everything else I bought last year. Some guys will say that's where I should have spent the money, chrome wont get you home blah blah blah but Im glad I tried these out and can give an honest opinion for guys who dont have $800 to spend and want a decent alternative at a decent price.

flame away brake snobs, I can handle it.

Just put a HHI on the front of my HS.

The pads are still in their bedding stage, but already I can feel an improvement over stock (went from the stock 1 piston caliper to the four piston chrome HHI unit).

I already had the braided brake line installed from the larger handlebar installation. The price difference between a new set of high quality pads for the stock caliper and the whole new HHI caliper with new pads was only $200 in my case. A total no-brainer.

Happy so far! And sorry I didn't do it sooner.

I sell HHI calipers here but personally prefer the PM calipers. It is really an aesthetics choice between the two as the HHI are clean and smooth and the PM calipers have the Pm logo on them, but I ran PM calipers on my softail for many years and they worked great. If you guys need calipers please let me know. I will deal for forum guys. HHI, PM, whatever you need.

I have the HHI 6 piston chrome for softails 2000 and newer ins tock ready th ship out. $350 shipped in teh ConUS. Give me a call and order I can ship today. Rear calipers I will avhe to order but HHI has most in stock. PM stuff is different, sometimes they have it, sometimes they do not.

Lead time can be a bit spotty on their stuff but their calipers are always top notch. A little more than the HHI, but worth the few extra bucks.

I was very happy to see that the guy I bought this bike from, he stayed with all Harley or SE parts. Since I have had it I also finished the bike in all Harley or SE parts. The ONLY things on my bike that are not Harley or SE parts or chrome are things I wanted but that Harley didn't make or deal in. I know it was more expensive but I did it all or mostly because of personal preferences and resale but that last part of that statement will never happen. I have the Harley Chrome brake calipers and I couldn't be happier with them or any other brand. This is just my opinion but one is as good as all the rest. I have never found myself in a position where they were never enough to stop me under any circumstances. I have no experience with ABS systems on a bike so I can't compare or comment on those types of brake systems or calipers.
