Unhappy Front fork gap

Hi All, new to forums and new to HD Forum...today i dropped my 06 FLSTNI while sitting in the garage....just saying....when i picked it up there is a noticeable gap between the risers where they attach to the bike. There is now play between the handlebars moving forward and backward....i took it for about a 30 mile ride and it seems to work as normal, however i am concerned about the play as it seems something is loose...maybe even a little vibration but hard to tell....any thoughts? (other than I am a dummy for dropping the bike )

Thanks,

Mulehide

My best guess would be the riser bolt is bent, and lodged or wedged in the tree from the drop???? Did it land on one of the grips?

If they aren't broken yet, that gap between the top triple tree and risers will snap the riser bolts.
You need to loctite and tighten the bolts back down or replace them if they look damaged. Also check the riser bushings for damage.
Hate to hear about you having them break off while you were riding down the highway.

Yep if it were me I would scrap the cheap HD riser bolts and go to your local hardware store and get some grade 8 bolts to replace them with.

It's probably the riser bushings. Mine were shot when I laid my old Fat Bob down. Replace them with the poly bushings and the play will go away. Pretty easy to do and the bushings only run around 30 dollars or so for the HD ones. The stock bushings are crap in my opinion and it doesn't take much to wreck them. The riser bolts might be bent but my moneys on the bushings

Thanks, it sounds like a good idea to upgrade the bolts and bushings...will take it apart and see what happened....thanks for the advice...really appreciate it.....

Take care,

Mulie
