Default lost sert

So got to thinking the other day for some reason about where the sert was for my bike. Checked all the usual places. Went down and checked in the solo bag and not there. Have a few places to look yet. But what happens if it was lost?

Assuming I would be out the $400 bucks and have to buy another one. But means bike is not tuned to stock can they still tune it?

Good thing is no motor mods are likely this year. But still wasnt a cheap little item. I'm probably panicing before I need to. But was just a thought.

As in even with a new one? Still can't tune the bike?

Would basically have to buy a new or reflash the ecm . Then buy a new sert? Or pretty much just screwed

When the SERT is connected to the bike and the ignition and run switches are turned to the "ON' position, the SERT is married to the ECM. This function is "By Design" preventing the device from tuning multiple bikes thus prompting more sales of SERT's. Think of this function as Anti-Piracy encoding.

I'm unaware though what software changes take place within the ECM after a SERT has established a connection to it. The base map is lost forever and can only be reinstalled by a dealer. Will your ECM accept a fresh SERT? Interesting subject.

I know once the sert is on the bike it has to stay with it. But if the sert was lost or damaged can one buy a new sert ?

I may just be jumping the gun. But ive checked all the places and can't find it.

Or once the ecm is married to a sert is that it? I know its it for the sert. But is it for the ecm and a new sert?

Well... if anyone else has it they can't use it... there's some comfort in that.

I would expect that your experience would be very similar to the original one. Buy a new SERT, the dealer flashes a new map (which may match exactly the one you are running now).

I bought a replacement ECM so I wouldn't have to remember what I did with anything! <grin>

But my question is....

Means my ecm is already mated to a sert. Can a new sert be mated to it?

I can't imagine that the MoCo hasn't taken this situation into account. They have to realize that SERTs will be lost.

My hypothesis is that the dealer must flash the ECM or change a particular setting that "unmarries" the previous SERT to the ECM. Then the ECM can be remapped and a new SERT installed, if desired.

i know on my car the programmer saves the factory program then installs the upgraded program. to go back stock you have to have the programmer or go to the dealer and have it reprogrammed. i'd be thinking it would be the same on your bike, but i don't know for sure.

Yes you can buy a new one. The Sert is married to the bike, the bike is not married to the sert.

I'd look into a different tuner if you have to get a new one.

The setr allows you to download your original map. But... Don't think the dealer would bother doing that. The sert is nothing but a box allowing the program on your PC to communicate with the ECM in your bike. Up to you to save the maps on your hard drive.
