On my 04 fxst, I had the exhaust off a few months ago and took the baffles out and ran torque cones. It was backfiring and popping way to much for my liking. Exhaust pipes are off again, should I put a performance baffle in? Opinions welcome!!!
Thanks
I just ordered the DK customs thunder torque inserts. They came in the mail 2 days later. I'm installing them next week when I get a chance. I will let you know how it turns out. Right now I have straight pipes that are pretty short. (see attached pic) Minimal popping on decel but it's there, want to get rid of it. Also want to regain some of the back pressure that's lost with straight pipes. For the price you can't go wrong. DK Customs is a stand up outfit too. Excellent customer service.
I have a set of Samson 39" cholos with the removable baffles sitting here on my living room floor. When my bike goes in for all the mods, when completed the bike is going for a Dyno tune. The guy who is going to be doing the tune told me he will take the baffles and cut them down and a little at a time to get the optimum tune. Have you ever thought of cutting your baffles down? This will be a 1st for me as well so I will post results when my bike is back home and complete.
I've used Big City Thunder Monster baffles and was very pleased with the deep sound. I just bought a set of their QQ baffles to try in my Short Shots but haven't installed them yet.

Ive never heard of cutting the baffles down, im very interested to here the results tho!
wanted to let you guys know.. I installed the thunder torque inserts last weekend. I don't have numbers to show you but I can tell you right off the bat that I got some of my lost low end torque back. I could tell as soon as I went for a test ride. Also, popping on decel is gone, couldn't get it to happen no matter how hard I tried. I'd recommend these for sure.

It sounds to me like he's going to tune it to be able to show you the highest numbers. You definitely don't want that. If this tuner hasn't asked you how you ride and where you want the torque I would stay away from him. Do you want it tuned for max tq/hp, regardless of where that happens? Do you want an economy tune? Do you want a mix tune of low rpm torque and economy on the freeway? A good tuner will ask these questions and try to set it up the way YOU want it, with a minimal amount of sacrifices. Did you ask him what he's trying to accomplish by chopping up your new exhaust? It would be interesting to hear his answer.
Been running them for over a year. Is why I keep recommending them. The lady I talked to on the phone was very helpful. Another reason I keep recommending them. Customer service is #1. When I put my cams in, the bike was almost unrideable. When I got it it had no baffles. Ran ok til I put the cams in. In order to quiet it down I got the Inserts cuz they were inexpensive. It has run like a top since I put them in. Haven't had it dynoed yet, need to break in the new 98" kit first.
