Just to set the record straight, Jim & Dan speak the truth.
I'm the only loose nut on '98 solid mounted softail.

YES!!! HD had defective crankcases in the late 80's,causing oil to leak past the main seal and into the primary,There was a recall for affected models.make sure you ask the seller about his oil consumption or even better have it checked out..remove the derby cover, if brownish fluid dumps out..run away!
Trust me, I learned the hard way when i bought my '89..opted to put a new motor in as opposed to rebuilding the entire lower end.

How many miles on it? mine had 56k.. after my guy had a look at it, he was positive the speedo had rolled over..
