Forget trying to figure out a young girls mentality, reasoning or what and why they think or do like they do. Just go with the flow and put your foot down on what will hurt them. I was pretty open with my kids, I probably gave them a little more room then most but hey, they are young adult's now and pretty good kid's. My kid's are actually my best friends but I don't cross that 1 fine line with them. I am always Dad 1st.
