Whoa. Wanna be R. Lee Ermey. Lighten up. If you think I would seriously consult a motorcycle forum for financial advice, then I'm afraid the joke is on you. We're all just having a little fun here. While I respect your strong personal thoughts on financial independence and responsibility (and I do)....If you want to make your case for the consequences regarding the saving/spending habits of "most Americans"....... Start your own thread....or take it elsewhere.

and now for something completely different........

If I could pay mine off, but that meant not doing any mods til next winter, I'd still pay it off. Depending on how much the refund was, it would be awful tempting to splurge though. Even going 50/50 would be tempting.

It's a little over 5K. Maybe I'll take $250 and pick up an engine guard.....the rest to the bank.

One of the reasons i bought my Harley. I am tired of thinking about the mess we are in (bought a Deluxe, ride and forget everything else). I want to have a good time while we still can.

I say pay it off. Payed off my mortgage last year and have no debt. Best feeling ever.
