Default Samson black or chrome mount brackets?

I ordered a set of Samsons today from M&M, can't beat the price they have on them for this month. I ordered new flanges and gaskets also. The one thing I noticed after my order was that you can get the brackets for the mufflers in chrome instead of the black ones that come with it.

My question is are these brackets really that noticeable that I should consider spending the extra money for chrome or are the black ones fine and blend in with the frame?

I am going for a more nostalgic theme to my bike so I ordered the 28.5" Longtails which perfectly fit my style. Can't wait to get them on and hear my bike like it is suppose to be heard.

I, too, am working on a nostalgic look for my bike. I also like the look of chrome. I have Samson 28.5" fishtails on my 2012 Heritage.

IMO, the muffler brackets are not that noticeable, but, they can be seen. By the same token, the flange on the muffler that attaches to the bracket is chrome and it is not that noticeable either, but, it can be seen. Consider that the saddlebags on the Heritage make the brackets more difficult to see. The black brackets simply blend in with the frame.

Maybe pictures speak louder than words. Sorry, these aren't the best pictures but you can see them, especially the right side. I have Hot Toppers over the bolts. For now, I will leave the black brackets. In the future, if I am looking for some chrome to add, I can always do it then. You'll have to make that decision yourself. Hopefully someone can post a picture using a chrome bracket.

Thanks for the reply Doc. I think I will save some money and just use the black brackets. Using motorcycle logic I will use that savings on some chrome front and rear fender rails.

By the way I think your bike looks fantastic.

kneesinthebreeze,

I agree with your plan. You can always convert the brackets to chrome ones.

Thanks for the compliment. Let me say you made a great choice in pipes. If you think they will look great, wait until you hear them.

Post pics when the install is complete.

Ride safe, brother.

Black swing arm = black brackets

Chrome swing arm = chrome brackets

They are very noticeable in my opinion but will blend with whatever is behind them.

Makes sense Motown.

Now we want to know why you are posting to the forum instead of wrenching on your bike. Don't you know we are all waiting to see pics of the end result.

That philosophy makes the choice of brackets very easy.

I am stuck in the Motown Strag conundrum right now. When I installed the exhaust on my bike, I had the stock black swing arm, and the brackets really looked fine. I since installed the chrome swing arm covers, and they really do stick out. I agree, they now need to be chromed. I guess my only issue is whether to have my stock brackets chromed when I take my floorboard mounts and some other miscellaneous hardware to my local chrome shop, or do I buy a new chrome set directly from Samson?

I am considering the same thing right now.

Who is M&M by the way?
