I just bought an '04 EFI Heritage and the po cut the baffles out of the mufflers and added a Kuryakyn hypercharger. Since he was the original owner I asked him if he remapped the ECM and he didn't, he said it ran great and had no problems with it. I'm replacing the mufflers with a used set that weren't cut up (not a big fan of loud exhausts and I can't believe opening up the exhaust and not remapping can end well for the engine). My question is, does that shitty little air cleaner allow any more air in than a stock air cleaner? I received the stock air cleaner with the bike but the since the other was installed (and doesn't look bad) why not just leave it on (unless it can damage the engine over time.)
Thanks,
That air cleaner can be ordered for the stock inlet or the Stage-1 inlet. I suspect that is what you have.
The Stage-1 inlet is what really increased the air flow into the engine. Get yourself to a dealer for the Stage-1 inlet with a software flash the the stock ECM that will allow the engine to rev up to 6200 (stock is about 5800). Then contact the Fuel Moto Usa folks for a PowerCommander.
Ask the original owner if the cam tension guides have been replaced, I'll bet they have not. So you will have an excuse to install a better cam and wake up that 88.
F#ck it... I took it off and put the stock air cleaner back on. Easier and cheaper than bullshitting around with someone else's "handy work". I might not keep the bike so I don't want to spend money on a power commander.
