I can't find stat's as to which sub-model is the leading seller only the root. Right now the FL (street Glide, Road Glide, Geezer Glides ) are the biggest sellers by far. Softail and Dyna are near the same and XL and VRod are behind them.
I don't have percentages since it was just a rudimentary graph I was looking at in a book at the dealer. He though it should be Softails too.
I just got a FB Lo and I'm looking forward to the 103 motor as well as the seat. At 62, in the past few years I have gone from Road Kings and Valkyries to an Iron and a Super Glide Custom because they are so much lighter and handle so well.
The vibration in the Dyna is part of being a Harley so that didn't bother me. I will be selling the Iron which I will probably regret since it's the most fun to ride, but it is also the most grueling on a long ride.
I'm looking forward the the smooth style and comfort of a FB and getting help from you guys with finishing out my first Softail in ten years.
While my FXSTC was being worked on I borrowed a 2013 FatBoy Lo and though I hate the fat front tire, and the bars, and the seat, the rough shifting tranny and the stock exhaust; It ran great, the 103 motor was very nice compared to my 96b, it handled really well and the seat was comfy.
go rent a touring bike and while crusing at 75+ mph notice the lack of vibration compared to the buzzy vibes of the softail.. sure the balanced motor vibes much less at the dunkin donut parking lot or below 25mph. However the balanced motor vibrates more while riding than the touring bikes rubber mounted non balanced engines..

I admit the tourers are great bikes since I have had two of them and nothing in the softail line beats its touring capabilities; however, I have had the couterbalanced engine with stock pipes and my wife on the back up to 85 mph with no more vibration than my 2011 ultra limited.
