He has a rigid look
You have a better suspension
He has a balanced engine, solid mounts
You have a non-balanced engine with rubber mounts

6 of one, half dozen of another.

I like 'em both, owners of both will argue for and against. Ultimately it comes down to what ever gets your motor runnin' is the bike to own.

I wish I had one of each.

Fatbob- racing around town on.

Fatboy- cruising down the highway on.

Think the bikes are just too different to say which is better. Different bike familys, different styles, both are bad *** lookin bikes. i favor the softail suspension (just caust its hidden)

I would like the opinion of an experienced Harley rider. I like both bikes and want some comfort, but want a bike that still handles. So I guess that means the Fat Bob.

1. How much does the big front wheel affect ride quality?

2. Does anyone know the difference in ride quality between the two bikes?

Here's 40+ years of riding weighing in, and I've had both Softails and Dynas. My preference just for looks is the softail. For actually riding, and I mean riding for hours on end, day after day, the Dyna would absolutely be my choice. The Softies are counterbalanced to smooth out the rigid mounted motor. Those counterbalancers are heavy, and have to turn with each revolution of the motor to work. That decreases power that actually goes to the wheels. The rubber mounted Dynas are smoother, more power, better riding, and handle much better in the twisties. If you got the Fat Bob you won the lotto. One of the very best bikes HD has ever made. If you don't believe me, when you and your buddy each have your bikes, go on a trip together. You ride his bike for a full day, and let him ride yours for the day. At dinner after that day, talk about how things went. You'll be glad to return the FatBoy, and happy to get your FatBob. Let us know.
