I have the HD edgecut grips and the left one stays secure just by the switch housing clamping down on it. I would say that the set screws are a good idea and should hold just fine.

I have PM grips and the left is held on by two set screws.
Slide it on and using a small drill bit, drill shallow dimples for the set screws to seat into.
Blue loctite and you're done.

P.S. Mark the the set screw spots, remove the grip and drill...

Well first let me say this........... they suck! But now, to the question. I ran a set and yes, the left side is just set screws. That being said, I never had a problem with slipping. I carried a spare Allen wrench just in case, but never seemed to need it. They stayed firmly secured. Now, to my first point. They are with out a doubt the most uncomfortable grips I have ever owned. I ran them for less than two month before I gave up on them. They are cold as crap when the weather is cold and hard as rocks when the weather is warm and you have no gloves. AND they tear up your hands. I loved the look, but just could not deal with the comfort. Maybe you are tougher than me. Lets hope, right. But for me, I got rid of them.
