I find stock shields terribly annoying with the buffeting coming under neath them.. if you got the fangs thingies you are probably better off.
This year I am changing my trees then will experiment with aftermarket shields and see .
I have the H-D quick detach on my Slim.
I got it strictly as a part time add-on, for day trips, highway use or bad weather.
While everybody else is waiting for the weather to warm up, I've been out regularly for the last three weeks or so - with the windshield...
Forget looks, when I picked up my FLD, it was 42 and 3pm, getting darker and colder. Last bike was a full Kawi sport tourer with lowers; this was my first harley. Frankly, that Harley shield kept me warm enough for the 150 m ride home. Maybe the looks of the shield puts some off; all I know is I'm riding while they're judgin'.
Like everyone has said. The fatty looks much better without a shield. I went with a Memphis shades batwing with the quick detach kit. It's more functional than a shield, and has slightly better styling IMO . It's only on the scoot when I know I'll be riding on the highway or 200+ miles.
If I'm getting out on a highway or interstate with traffic I like to have it on. Don't much care for bugs or small rocks hitting me in the face. Any other time I take it off. I have the quick disconnect that requires no tools to remove.
