I have a buddy that does PDR and I asked him about this b/c I have a small dent in the same area (hmmm, wonder how thathappened). I acutally droped my bike the first day I had it. My dent is not very noticable, even with my ape hangers. I was sitting on the bike when the kick stand recoiled and the bike began to fall, I was able to slow the fall so the dent is very minor.

Anyway, PDR will not work b/c you cannot access the inside of the tank due to it being sealed (even where the fuel gauge goes). Second, they use a glue technique to pull the dents out, however, this sometimes removes paint, especially if the dent is over a pinstripe, which mine is.

I am just living with mine until it comes time for a custom paint job.

good luck

Isn't there a tool, that they sell in auto part stores, that uses 2 suction cups, to stick a bar across the dented surface? Then you use a third suction cup on the dent and a wrench, to slowly pull the dent out.

..works on some dents in cars, won't be much help on tank, thicker metal and the overall shape of a tank makes it stronger. Pressurizing with air will not work and can be dangerous, pressure is going to move weakest part of tank, which isn't the dent.

For thicker metal, they use metal tools from the inside to work the metal. But you won't have the ability to do it from inside the tank.

My buddy dented his Bad Boy's tank the same way only he bumped the bars into the garage and dented the tank. Hey, though there is no damage, I dropped my brand new Nightrain last night. Deep dry sand at a tiki hut outby the beach[&:]

The problem with pdr on a gas tank is that wherever the metal is curved it is "stressed". It is difficult if not impossible to get a dent out of stressed metal using pdr. If it were me I would look for a set of undamaged tins or an undamaged tank and get the whole thing repainted unless you found a set painted a color you like. I see them on ebay all the time. You can sendan undamagedtank to harley and have it painted to match your existing tins or you could always send your tins to harley and get a cool colorshop paint job for $1000.00 or less.

tried air on a meteric bike all it did was spread the tank apart didn't touch the dent at all, was slowly letting air in as i banged around the dent with a rubber mallet no luck it spreaded the tank before it evan did anything to the dent, think anyway your going to need to take it to get it painted, the glue on dent puller may ruin the paint Iguess that would be worth trying as at worst you would need paint but you already will, try e bay and good luck

I hear a loud clank, clunk, and what do you know, my bike had fallen over on its side.

I can only imagine what was going through your head when you saw your bike on its side. I hate it for yaand cannot offer anymore advice than what has been given. To keep me and perhaps many others from going through the same thing, any ideas as to why it fell over? Uneven pavement, sloped drive, etc.?

And keep us informed if the paintless dent removal thing works and how well. I'm sure you aren't the first nor will you be the last.

Take care and ride safe,

07HC

Not quite sure how the bike fell over. Our driveway does have a slant but I've parked it inpretty muchthe same spot many many times and no problem. Felt I did everthing the same as always. Only thing I can think of was maybe I didn't have the kick standfully extended and the vibration from the engine running allowed it to shift.

The pinstripe is right where the dent begins, for the most part on the bottom of the dent. This has just beenone frustrating weekend not being able to get it out of my mind. Thanks everyone for all the help and we'll see what the future holds.
