Doing some small "spring-mods" and my ears are still ringing.
I accidently removed the "-" first from the battery, and the alarm went off. Hurried up and removed the "+", but the alarm kept ringing.
Hooked up the battery again and the alarm shut down. Tried to remove the "+" terminal and the alarm went off again.
Reconnected the battery. Bike works fine. Starts with no problems. But every time I try to disconnect the battery now, the alarm goes off. Whats wrong?
Granted I've only had 1 cup of coffee this morning, but how does an alarm go off if the power is dis-connected - separate battery somewhere? Dis-connect it first?
I believe the alarm has a battery backup in it...it will run off of battery power when you unhook the main battery. Try unhooking it while you have the FOB present.
I learned a long time ago as I am now deaf from the same thing. With key fob present, turn bike on, alarm deactivates, pull your negative battery cable and voila no running around your garage like you are being stung by a million bees.
Of course I had the "key fob" in my pocket. I've done this many times, and never had to turn on the ingition first.
And yes the alarm still work with the battery disconnected. It get quieter after a while, but went back to full power as soon as I reconnected the battery ( before it stopped ).
I thought it was because I disconnected the "+" first, which was a mistake, but I guess I try with the ignition on next time.....
Fob and keys on my belt. Remove seat, turn ignition on, pull main fuse. Turn ignition off. Do whatever, maintenance, etc. When I'm finished, just check that whatever I undid is back together and re-install main fuse. So far I haven't blown anything up or scared the crap out of neighbors. Works for me.
Good tip. I deafened myself once disconnecting the ground. It pissed the alarm off! I thought I had to put the fob out of range and deactivate the alarm with the code and then disconnect the battery. This is much easier. Derp.
