Default what rim size???

I am going to be purchasing some new performance machine rims for my 2009 night train and im wondering what would be a good rim/tire size for the front and rear? Shotgun shock will be next along with the heartland kit. I figure i should put that out there if it effects the size of the rear. Thanks guys.

18x5.5 is a popular size for the rear, though I'm a fan of the stock 17x6.25. If sticking with 21" up front, decide if you want a 90 (2.15) or 120 (3.5) tire. Of course, 23" wheel up front is gaining popularity.

Just installed a 23x3.5/18x5.5 with a 200mm tire on my 08 train. You could always go with the 240 kit if you're into that look. IMO the 200 rear is plenty big on these bikes.

I'm gonna stay with the 200. I like the 240 but I don't wanna lose the handling. And do you have any pics?

I'm running an Avon Cobra upfront, but a Metzler 880 in the rear. I know it should be a matched set, but Metz doesn't make a 23" and I read multiple threads about the how the Avon 200mm tire sits much taller, rather than wider.

Next step is exhaust and getting the front lowered...gonna go w/ a progressive 2" drop and -2 fork tubes, no additional rake. Shotgunshock will follow in due time.

If you are going to do this, you may as well change something .. so 18 back and 23" front is the Uber cool dejour, but the problem is , it maybe like fat wide tires .. and in a few years a switch back is needed.

23" front will probably start a ripple effect of some raked trees and the jazz..

Fatter 21 or 23 in the front is also very popular, which will also require .. guess what.. a new Fender.

New fender will tempt you to paint ..

and.... do not ask me how I know all this LOL

Correct...no mods needed as long as a stock size hub is used everything will swap over. Easiest bolt on ever.

I just bought rims. 18x5.5 and 21x3.25

Those are a good combination I think. You'd run a 200/55 18 and 120/70 21. Common sizes and less expensive tires.
