Here's a thread on that very topic:

FWIW, I just went with the stock Type E, with zero problems.

I went with Type E as well, no troubles. Amsoil makes one too and if I had known probably would have gone with that. What I get for not doing research.

If you have stock springs and not too many miles stock E is great. If you have 40+K on the bike I would step up to the SE oil as the valving will be starting to open.

I have lowering springs in the front of mine and wanted a bit more dampening to avoid bottoming out on deep holes. SE worked the treat.

You could have cracked them loose while they were still clamped in the trees.
And an impact gun is recommended, although I guess I got lucky, mine busted loose without one.
But mine only had 500 miles on it at the time, so that may have had something to do with it.
You have a steel bolt with a copper washer screwed into an aluminum casting.
All that dissimilar metal binds up like a be-itch...

yeah mines an 06, its all good I will let ya know what happens tomorrow. I thinks the spring had a lot to do with it not coming loose with the driver(absorbing the impact)

When I did on my train a couple months ago, I had to do it twice. I bought the "economy" priced seals from J&P.. Needless to say, some things are better purchased straight from HD, because the seals I got from J&P leaked right out the top. Put in the HD seals and had no issues. I also used a piece of 1.5" PVC split down the side. Works great. When I reassembled, I also used thread tape on the allen bolts as well as the drain plug screws.

I also used Amsoil's Medium fork oil, and love the way the front end reacts now compared to the standard Type E HD oil. I would recommend changing this over to Amsoil to anyone. It really makes a difference.
