Question Led question...

I know alot of you are switching to led lighting. My question is, if they burn out or just one bulb burns out, are they replaceable? And if they are, where to get them? From the manufacturer? I am about to install Alloy Art led's front and rear probably this weekend. I guess I should of thought of this before I purchased them. Thanks for your input and any help on this...

As far as I know if one burns out its not replaceable, it's a case of when a few eventually blow you just replace the whole unit, on the plus side they last a lot longer than a bulb.

Right, I don't believe the individual lights are replaceable either, at least not easily. If you really wanted to tear it down and solder in a new one it could probably be done. But, the safety benefit of running an LED light with this in mind is that most of the light continues to work.

With the right equipment a led element can be removed and a new one soldered to the board.

I mainly worry about replacing one unit. Will I have to re-buy the whole set again? I guess that's more of a question to the company I got them from...unless someone here has bought just one. I got them from Custom Dynamics.

As far as the lights go, I wish I had switched them out when I got the bike. They're awesome!

Looks like Custom Dynamics has a 1-Year warranty, after that, break out the soldering iron

Given a perfect universe LED's will 'technically' last forever as unlike an incandescent bulb they are self regenerating.
As a practical matter and assuming they are good quality and don't get over driven by too much voltage they will generally outlive your bike.
But if one or two do burn out they can be replaced.
Problem is that if they are the tiny surface mounted types it's not very piratical for the average Joe to do.
The larger stand off type of LED is fairly easy if you know how to use a soldering iron.
But your going to have issues with figuring out exactly what brand, model LED you need to replace the dead one with.
Many if not most of the ones used are not labeled so getting one that's compatible.
That is one that has similar brightness characteristics is going to be a bit of a challenge.
In short, yes you can repair them, but as a practical matter, don't bother.
Its a lot more trouble than its worth.
A better idea is to get LED's from a reputable source that have a decent warranty and don't worry about it.
Because if they last the first 10 to 100 hours, the odds are good that they will last as long as you do.
