Default 2002 Fatboy Windshield Fitment

I recently bought the windshield linked below from eBay, dumb me, tried to save a few bucks since I don't intend to ride with the windshield on very often, mainly just highway.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300898751144...84.m1497.l2649

I also went to the Harley dealer and bought the bolt kit and bushing kit to install the windshield.

http://www.surdyke.com/AdvPartInfo.a...umber=91800025

Two problems:

1. The windshield is about 1" wider (half in per side) than the forks on the bottom mounts and 1.5" wider on the top mounts.
2. The bolts in the mount kit above bottom out in the fork tubes before getting all the way tight.

Any thoughts? My neighbor has a 96 fatboy with a similar windshield and doesn't have any spacers, but mine seems to need 1/2" spacers on the bottom and 3/4" spacers on top... but this would not look very clean when the windshield is removed, which will be most of the time. Harley dealer is at a loss, so I need some help, thanks in advance!

It's hard to tell what you got because none of your links seem to work (at least for me). However, from your description it sounds like you got the windshield made for softails with auxiliary lights and the hardware for bikes without the lights.

There use to be different windshields for bikes with and without auxiliary lights with different brackets on the shield. The bracket for bikes without the lights stepped in slightly. Now they make a newer version that works with aux lights but also comes with the spacers for bikes without the lights:
http://www.thehouseofharley.com/v/vs...s/57141-05.pdf

So you can see the difference, here's the install sheet for the old windshield for bikes without the lights:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J00320.pdf

So you either need to get the spacers or get new brackets on the shield. Spacers are probably cheaper. I added aux lights to my bike so I have a set of brackets for a bike without lights I could sell.

By the way, the spacer part numbers are on the install sheet if you want to go that route.

Awesome! Those are exactly what I'm looking for.

Below is the windshield I bought, would your brackets fit? If so, I'm very interested, shoot me a message and we'll see what we can work out.

Unfortunately, I don't think mine will fit. They're for the regular king-sized detachable windshield and have three mounting holes on each. The one you have is the nostalgia version and has only two holes on the bracket. I'll double check when I get home.

By the way, I'm not sure that the nostalgia windshield was ever made for bikes without the aux lights except by using spacers.
