Glad you're ok. Never thought much about hitting a deer on my bike until one jumped across the road in front of me while I riding some back roads close to the house.
I don't get how you can hit a deer going 60 mph, have bike damage, and not go down.
Dang lucky for sure. It was a glancing hit, not really head on. Bent front fender, dented headlight bucket, flattened air filter against the motor and knocked off the rear brake master cylinder.
Had my fears realized tonight too. My bright idea... take the two lane road through the country and avoid the highway. Strange thing... a random customer in the restaurant we were at tells us, as he's leaving, to ride safe tonight. It was around 9:00 pm and for the whole ride home, all I could thing about was deer. We'll, that and the idiot in front of me for a while that was either a) drunk or b) texting. Then out of no where... bam, a doe darts out in front of us. My first thought was "you gotta be kidding me". I laid on the brakes and kept the bike straight (no safer options)... hit the deer and drug her a short distance between the front tire and frame before she shook loose. Stopped and found no visible damage to the FLSTN. My wife and I were a bit shook up though. I'll give the bike a better look over in the morning. Note to self... when you get that premonition, listen. I should have took the highway. At the very least, I listened to that nagging voice in my head to be on my toes... had I not, things may have turned out different. Be careful out there folks!
Glad you are OK. Around here is does not matter. There are deer running across the interstate and the country back roads. I keep an eye out where ever I ride even in suburban neighborhoods. I almost hit one that darted out between 2 houses in my neighborhood.
My 70 year old uncle hit one in Colorado and it flipped him over the handlebars, totaled the bike and a broken collar bone for him. The deer got up and ran off. They are some tough motherscratchers.
