Harley already has some pretty sophisticated strategies for preventing overheating. What problems are you encountering, and what do you want to accomplish?
Huh? You're wondering why he wants to try to combat the heat of a Harley-Davidson? Dude, you must be one tough sucker! Well, for your information, most people find the heat coming off the engine to be very uncomfortable. Air-fuel ratios must be set at 14.7:1 at the factory, due to government regulations, and that means the engine runs much hotter than is necessary, and, not as powerful as it could be, and that cool Harley look includes an exposed engine, without much heat-deflecting or heat-directing shrouding, which means the heat cooks your nuts, or whatever kind of crotch you may have. So, some of the less bad-*** amongst us try to do some things to lessen the heat, like custom fuel maps, heat shields like Captain Itch's Crotch Coolers, and parade fans. The problem with the parade fans is they don't work as well as they could. They blow across the engine cylinders, so they keep the engine as cool as if you were always at highway speed. Which is still pretty damn hot. But Ward's fans blow a small stream of high velocity air THROUGH the engine heads, which drastically improves the cooling effect. In fact, the engine never even gets that hot! The oil stays cooler, the engine stays cooler, and your crotch stays cooler. And, they cost almost half as much as most parade fans!

You and "ynots" don't think it's reasonable to ask for more information on what his goal is? Whether it's rider comfort, or concerns about engine longevity, or whether it involves unusual operating conditions, or something else?
"The best method of reducing the heat you feel is to place a barrier between the rider and the exhaust header heat, with one of the available leather or plastic mid-frame shields or insulating the pipe with ceramic coating or wrap. The single most effective method of actually cooling the Twin Cam engine is an auxiliary fan on the cylinder heads. The most effective way to cool the oil is an oil cooler system with a fan. To achieve maximum cooling overall, a combination of both, cylinder head fan and an oil cooler with a fan, but you'll still need a shield if you don't want to "feel" the residual heat."

We have tried the fans from the people that make the dual fans such as Jason Wards model, but did'n have too much success. Too much vibration caused the fans to shake apart. We ended up with a LeNale Engineering fan that has worked perfectly during the last year. It is funny that the people bragging up a fan are not customers, but the people trying to sell their junk. Before you buy a fan, check to see who sells through Harley dealers. LeNale is the only one we found.

I'm not trying to sell anything, I am an actual customer of Jason Wards fans. I don't know who's fans you have tried, but Jason's fans are extremely well made and work as advertised.
This is personal opinion, of course, but the LeNale fan needs you to relocate the horn (not always easy or efficient) and I'm not thrilled with the looks of it. I think Jason's product fits the HD motor well, leaves the horn in place, and looks great, if you notice it at all....
I have been a Harley customer since 1978, and a person who will ride nothing but a Harley.... just my preference. Let me warn you that if you judge a product, just on whether or not a Harley dealer will sell it...... you're about to spend a lot of money for some inferior products... just my 2 cents.

I had a lanale fan on a 2003 RK and it was a piece of crap when compared to Jason's fans and it did NOT perform any where near as well as the FCS. How could it. Even a novice has to admit that 2 fans directed at the hottest part of the heads vs. 1 fan blowing between the jugs is a better design, again anyone with any brains can see the logic behind Jason's dual fans. And if you own the FCS you will no doubt recognize the quality built into the FCS. Looks like Sarge is either working for Lanale or is just plain stupid
