Using a card to pay or walking inside and using cash, I always fuel and then put the cap back on before walking in for my overpaid change or riding off.
Pretty simple really.
Same here and I always pay cash.
We have a lot of problems with skimmers at the pump. Never use a debit card at the pump. Give thieves access to your bank acc.
"Cap on the seat" What about any residual fuel run off?
I don't want that fuel smell on the seat or my leathers so "On top of the pump" the cap goes.
Been lucky and have never driven off without the cap, but, you never know.
Usually when I pull my gas cap off it is dry or I wouldn't be gettin gas, and the other thing is I hold the cap in one hand and pump with the other. U know remove just before grabbing pump and put on before hanging pump up. Anyone try that? One handed pumping works!
How's that work? I've used a debit card for over 15 years and have never had a problem.
They install a card reader inside the pump at night and can read your card. If you chose credit you have certain protections but debit they can clear their your account out fast. It has happened here locally a few times. No one checks the overnight vids before they start the day. Your call. I prefer cash or go inside to use the card reader.

A lot of the stations around here have a tamper-proof seal on the door to help prevent such things. Most debit cards can be used as "credit", with no PIN. It' still debits your account, but you don't risk giving up your PIN.
Not related to this thread but they now have card readers where they, a thief, can simply walk by you and read your card while it's in your wallet, in your pants pocket. To counter that they are now coming out with Aluminum wallets, kind of like an old fashioned pocket cigarette case, if you will but I don't know how that can in anyway be comfortable, especially on a bike. Another scam is these thieves take jobs in restaurants waiting tables. When they take your credit card to ring up your bill they scan your card and take the 3 digit security code off of the back of your card. This device also stores your card into memory and they then sell that device, with up to 20 credit cards, to the identity poachers. I use my credit cards sparingly and only on emergencies if at all possible. You have no idea how your life can be turned upside down in a hurry from being the victim of Identity theft crimes. I only bring this up in this forum to help a fellow biker keep from getting his life upended. "Card reader" thieves at places like gas stations target out of state travelers because they can have your card maxed out by time you get back home and before you even knew what hit you.
