Front turn signal relocate

Front turn signal relocate
War did a great write up on how to do this in the day section. I have an 06 Standard softail. His write up says put the bolts in fork shroud. Question is, can I drill and place directly into the fork since I don't have a shroud?

On a Standard I would use the clamps made for signals. Some thing like these.

and just an fyi, I will have Signals + quick detach full setup for sale cheap in the next day or two
