Nighttrain, Looks like you gave me twice the hard time .... lol (the forum's been known to do that all on it's own)
You know I like it when there's a sense of humor involved.
And that goes for you too TLB.
Good sharing ideas with all of you!
Sometimes I wish I lived closer to the guys having issues just so I can get a first hand look. It's like a game we play hearing about issues and coming up with some way of figuring out exactly what the issue is.
Only when the OP comes back with the solution do I feel like my time isn't wasted.
Ok I took it to my dealership and they said it sounds like the transmission bearings and it will take about. Weeks to fix. Does this sound right for a bike with 20k miles
There's been several Tranny output bearings reported going bad in here and by our dealer, but not all the tranny bearings.
My Sons 2010 ST Glide had to have the Tranny OutPut bearing replaced this past summer at 18k.
Our Favorite Wrench at our dealershop said MoCo is passing the word (but not recommending) that they suggest not using any type of Gear Lube in the tranny. Now, they prefer owners to use a good Syn 20-50 or Formula +, in the tranny.
That bearing made a Bearing type noise, and U'll hear it on the left side of the motor and it will change pitch as the rpm's goes up and down.
The other whine my son has had issue with was on his 09 NT and that was the belt itself.
The fix for that was the Wrench at our dealership gave my son a little tin of belt dressing (looked like dark Vaseline) and told him to put a very small amount all the way around on the Belt edges only.. Not the whole surface of the belt. After he did that, NO more whine.
