Would someone please elaborate regarding the o-ring? I don't want to experience hot oil all over me or my bike. Where does the o-ring go and what size should I get? I have a '14 Heritage (in case it is different based upon model).

I am talking Softails and the replacement temperature dipstick. There is three grooves in the OD of the rubber plug on the older temperature dipstick. The OD is 1.350. The first groove OD is 1.230 and the second two are 1.242 . You just roll a fat O-ring into a groove. I rolled a Buna N soft 1 3/16 OD x 1" ID x 3/32 thick one in the first groove from the bottom. My stick is now snug. .............................................. RX 7 Girl, where is the oil level on your dipstick when the bike is hot from a long (15 mile) run? Just saying the dealer fills your oil level and expecting it to be correct is expecting a lot and asking a question and leaving out is the oil level correct.

Does the pop out only apply to the temp dipstick? Never seem to have any trouble w/ the stock one.

Too add to this problem, it's funny cause our owners manual's say to put three quarts of oil in when changing oil/filter. I for one will add two quarts, then maybe a half to get oil level cold on kick stand to reach the halfway point.
Keep in mind this is for a 13 Heritage. Not sure about other models.

I had the same thing happen. Mine was full on the top mark and popped out, oil spewed all over. I was less then 5 miles from home when it happened so ran home washed it off then warmed back up and re-checked it. Was right in the middle so I left it alone based on asking and getting similar answers and I have not had 1 issue since that.

I do the same thing with the temp/dipstick only I use thinner o-rings because the grooves aren't as deep on the temp/dipstick.

OK, so it looks like this is not a problem with the stock dipstick. However, it also looks like threadstopper has done this with the stock dipstick. So, now I am confused... (Doesn't take much lol) Does this problem happen with all dipsticks including stock or just the aftermarket temp gauge one? threadstopper is that the stock dipstick you are showing? Do you know of it happening to the stock one or are you just taking an extra precaution?
