So I did a fender swap and installed a new led tail light, now my red light comes on and I'm getting a b2166 code. I have determined that it is the tail light by unplugging the new one and plugging in the stock one and am able to clear the code. The new led light works like it is suppose to so I dont understand why I'm getting an error code. Has anyone had this problem and what is the solution? Also, will it hurt anything to run it this way?
I know my panacea integrated tailight required an alarm compatible load equalizer. When I unplugged it, I get the red security light and dtc codes for 21 and 22.
I'm not sure which brand led you got, but most of them require a load equalizer to work properly. Even more so with harley's TSSM (security module) you will need an alarm compatible load equalizer.
There are other brands, but my bike came with the kuryakyn.
here's a link to the load equalizers: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Harley/Lighting/Load-Equalizers
If you have stock harness, and no run/turn add ons you would need something like this: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/763...alizer-Adapter
Kuryakyn suggests to add 1 load equalizer for each pair of led lights (depending on your set up)
Hope this helps,
Good Luck and let us know how u solve it.

Reason: info added
Thanks for the reply. Mine doesnt have the security. I did notice that my stock tail light used pins 1, 2 and 4 on the 4 pin connector. The new tail light was using 1,2 and 3. I removed pin 3 and placed it in the number 4 position and that seemed to take care of it and everything is working as it should, with no error codes.
It's my understanding that 2011 and newer Softails have canbus wiring, and there is no need for the load equalizer.
Thanks, that is good to know
I dont know what year the OP's bike is, unfortunately mine requires load equalizers for my security system and turn signals to function properly.
I know this is a really old thread. I am hoping to get some info here rather that starting a new thread. My bike is 2013 Fat Boy Lo (FLSTFB). My stock bulb tail/brake light (3157K) went out and threw 2 codes: b2161 and b2166. I cleared the codes. I wanted to replace the old light(3157k) with a LED. Once installed, The new LED tail/brake light worked but the BCM threw a b2166, only. This leads me to believe that I need a load equalizer. Is that correct? if so, can any of you recommend good ones?
