Default Turn Signal Delete

I want to remove my front turn signals and I'm wondering if this will cause issues with the rear signals or any other electrical. (this is a 2007 Night Train)

Any advice? (besides leaving them alone)

Thanks!

I am currently not running front turn signals on my 2008 Crossbones and have been doing so for almost a year now without any issues.

The only time I saw an issue of any kind was when I was running the Run/Stop/Turn module for the rear signals. With that still installed, it caused the blinkers to operate at a much faster rate. Whether or not this could cause problems is beyond me but I never suffered any ill effects from it.

A few months back I bought a new tail light and the seller threw in some smoked rear turn signal lenses in with amber bulbs. I decided to pull the Run/Stop/Turn module when I removed the red lenses from the rear sigs. To my surprise, once I removed the module, the blinkers operate a normal speed even though I still don't have front signals. Again, all this has been over the course of a year and I have had no issue with the bike.

I won't site my concerns over safety since I don't think you are really asking for input from that perspective.

The thing is, I never planned to run without signals. It sort of just happened and I still consider it a temporary situation. Basically, I switched out my bars last year and planned to run either pancake style sigs on my Heritage Springer light bar or something a little more old school, maybe mounted to the forks. As such I installed the bars without signals and now it's been almost a year and I have yet to replace the signals. You'd think that with this much delay, I'd just add them to the bars but I ran the wires internally on these new bars. It would have been much easier to do all that with the bars off the bike and to do the signal and control wires at the same time. As soon as I get settled into my new place, and have room and time to spare for tinkering I plan to remedy my "no front blinker" situation. However, that is only because I don't feel as safe without them and NOT because I have experienced any negative effects to my motorcycle.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply!

I've heard from some that their rear signals did blink faster but, still worked. That doesn't bother me too much. I was somewhat concerned about the factory security system that utilizes all of the turn signals.

If your rear signals blink faster, turn everything thing off, unhook negative ground cable for about 10 seconds, and hook back up. The rear signals should now blink normal.
I know you are removing them for style, which is your option. In Texas, I guess they are not required. However, I would consider moving them to the forks or something like alloy art leds, for safety reasons.

Right on!

It's odd how it works.

Not long after I had my Bones, one of the front sig bulbs when out on a ride home from work and I noticed that when I turned the blinker on for that side it would blink fast. I don't believe I was using the Run/Stop/Stop turn module in those days.

When I removed them all together and the rears blinked faster it didn't surprise me. Also, it presented no issues with the security system. At this time I WAS using the Run/Stop/Turn module for the rear lights and had been doing so for about two years.

So you can imagine my surprise when I removed the Run/Stop/Turn module and the rears bow blinked at normal pace. I tested this by re-installing the module and trying the blinkers and sure enough, the blinked faster.

I just clipped them the other day. The fronts had three wires and the rears only had two. I don't remember if the front ones were running lights or not.

Yes. The fronts are both running lights and turn signals which is why you have three wires. One is the ground (black), one is the turn signal (purple) and one is the run light (blue). The rear only has two; a ground (black) and one for the turn signals (purple). The other difference you will notice between front and rear signals is that the front uses a dual filament bulb while the rear uses a single filament bulb.
