Talking Triple Tree swap

I posted this in the tech forum, but it doesn't look like too many ppl are in there too often.
Does rake and trail play a role in swapping triple tree's if the fork size is 49mm? Dyna Fat Bob trip's in gloss black on the Softail Breakout - both 49mm but different rake and trail numbers. I know some parts are interchangeable between these two families. I'm sure eventually the moco will release model specific parts soon enough, but patience is a tough thing to corral. y'all know what I mean. I guess a call to the service dept would help too but its more fun here.

I think I found the answer, "no go", from a post about a year ago.

Here's a good read, and a trail calculator.

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/rakeandtrail.html

Chances are both bikes have 0* trees, and just swapping out your trees and reusing your tubes probably will not have any affect on your trail numbers. The trail number is what you want to watch out for, that is what provides ride stability. Rake can be changed all you want, as long as the proper adjustments are made to maintain adequate trail.

Aside from the trees being the right rake, you need to consider the steering stop setup as well as the neck lock. I have read these are different between the dyna line and the softail line.

If your only goal is gloss black trees, I would think the easiest thing to do is get yours powder coated, or go aftermarket. As was stated in your link, it will work but it won't be bolt on, and after grinding you'll need to re-powder everything anyway.

Easiest way to tell if the rake is in the trees or the frame is to look at the bike from the side if the fork tubes run at the same angle as the neck (parallel) then the trees most likely have no rake in them, if the tubes are at a different angle then there probably is some rake in the trees. Be careful with raked trees because they can change your trail a whole lot very quickly. The calculators online are a good way estimate the results, but everything should be measured on your bike after everything is installed just to be sure your trail number is in the safe range

Thanks for the responses, some good stuff here. Sounds like a winter mod of powder coating the stock trees is going to be less of a headache than anything.
