NEED SOME ADVICE.........
I SELECT THE IGNITION TO ON AND WAIT FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF BEFORE I START THE BIKE...I THEN START THE BIKE AND I HAVE NOTICED THE LAST FEW TIMES THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. WHAT COULD THIS BE?
THE BIKE RUNS AS IT ALWAYS HAS. I AM GUESSING THE COMPUTER HAS LOGGED A FAULT OF SOME SORT.
wow it can be a number of things. if you can locate the wire harness where they plug the computer up to, to find what the problem is, you can use a paper clip as a jumper to get the error (default code) use both ends of the paper clip into both pins of the harness. with bike running of course. hopefully the default code will be indicated on the speedo.
Your bike has encountered a problem and stored a trouble code in the computer. That little light reminds you that it's still stored and waiting to be read. The dealer can read the cod with his scanner. It may have been a one-time glitchfrom one of the sensors that was out of limits. Most of the time it is just a one time thing. It's worth checking out.
I had it happen on my 02 Heritage Softail Classic. The light came on after the engine started and then after a few seconds it would go off. The bike ran fine so I just ignored it. Later, after about 50 starts or thereabouts, it went off and didn't come back on after the bike started. I read somewhere, maybe on this forum, that a fault can occur that is not a real problem and it can be cleared by a certain number of cycles of the key on and off. Anyway, my bike only did it once in nearly 5 years.
